RIP Mr Johnny Hammond

It is with great sadness that the club have been informed of the passing of Mr John Hammond. Mr Hammond was one of the co-founder members of the club in 1967 and served as a manager, committee member and chairman of our Club during his dedicated years.

Johnny as he was known to all club members was instrumental in dealing with the Council to get the club into Greenhills Park in 1980.

In 1990 Johnny took on an U10 team as a pilot project to see if the club could generate their own senior players from within the Club and in turn it was quite a successful team.

Mr Hammond will probably be remembered most for being the Conductor of the Carol Singing the club used to perform around the estate in the 1980s.

Mr Hammond was last in Greenhills Park watching a game on the Day we celebrated 50 years (Greenhills XI v Ireland Masters) and also attended the Celebration meal in the Spawell later that evening. (Photo below from the 50th Celebration Game v Ireland masters)

Mr Hammond was a huge part of this club and will be forever remembered and thankful for all he did by all who knew him or were involved with the Football Club..

RIP Mr John Hammond

*We will post Funeral arrangements once we receive them

  1. i first me Mr. Hammond in 1967 as a 10 year old shortly after the club was set up. It was probably in Tommy Murray’s garage on St. Patrick’s Road. He was always a gentleman. May he Rest In Peace.
